IPS Shalabh Sinha was born on May 12, 1984, in Raikera, a small village in the Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh. His father, Sanjay Sinha, was an officer at Coal India, and his mother, Mrs. Lata Sinha, is a homemaker. Shalabh has a younger brother name Sajal Sinha and Shalabh Sinha is married to Raipur resident Janhvi Pandey. Their first meeting was on Facebook and When he was a child, his father’s job posting moved the family to Vishrampur in Ambikapur, where Shalabh began his early education at Carmel Convent School.

He later attended DAV Public School for third grade and continued his education from fourth grade to twelfth grade at DAV Kusmunda in Korba district. Despite being an average student, he scored 76% in his tenth grade and 72% in his twelfth grade exams.

After completing his twelfth grade, Shalabh went to Bangalore to pursue mechanical engineering, but he was not selected. He then completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical from Raipur Institute of Technology. He started working in the engineering field while also preparing for an MBA. However, he felt that he could not clear the CAT exam, so he decided to shift his focus to preparing for the UPSC exams.

Shalabh moved to Delhi and prepared for UPSC for four years. He attempted the exam for the first time in 2010 but did not succeed. Believing that more preparation would help, he quit his job to focus on his studies full-time. In his second attempt in 2011, he reached the interview stage. In 2012, due to overconfidence, he failed the preliminary exam and also did not pass the state PSC and Assistant Commandant exams. These failures led to a period of discouragement.

In 2013, despite his previous setbacks, Shalabh took the UPSC exam again and, in his fourth attempt, secured the 244th rank, earning him a place in the Indian Police Service (IPS).

IPS Shalabh Sinha Career After Selection in UPSC

Finally, on September 1, 2014, Shalabh Sinha added IPS (Indian Police Service) to his name and joined the service. He was posted in the Durg district. After joining the service, he served as the in-charge of Ranitari and Dhamdha police stations. During his tenure, IPS officer Shalabh Sinha made numerous significant arrests and thwarted terrorist attacks, illegal liquor operations, cyber fraud, and chit fund scams, sending the perpetrators to jail.

While patrolling in Durg at 3:30 am, he seized and confiscated two small bags filled with gold and silver jewelry worth approximately 5 to 6 million rupees from a Maruti car. He also arrested members of a gang in Chhattisgarh involved in sending money obtained through cyber fraud to terrorists. While serving as CSP in Bilaspur, Shalabh Sinha uncovered a significant terror funding case linked to Kashmir and Pakistan. During this period, he traveled to Kashmir to arrest the main conspirator of this plot, with additional arrests made in Bhopal.

He exposed the largest gambling operation in the state, recovering forty lakh rupees in Masturi, and uncovered the Sem Time chit fund company, which had defrauded investors across the country of crores of rupees. As Additional SP in Sukma, Shalabh Sinha served diligently for 16 months, during which he encountered 28 Naxalites and, in eight months, arrested all the accused in a high-profile gang rape case, who were subsequently convicted by the court.

He also neutralized two Naxalites with bounties of eight lakh rupees each on their heads, established six camps in Naxal-affected areas, and facilitated the construction of 13 vital roads. Throughout his career, Shalabh Sinha’s exemplary work has brought new respect and honor to the IPS uniform.
