Imane Khelif Biography: Imane Khelif was born on May 2, 1999, in a rural village in Sougueur, Tiaret Province, Algeria. 2024 Olympics Match Controversy

On August 1, 2024, Angela Carini abruptly quit her match against Imane Khelif just 46 seconds in, crying, This is unjust. before dropping to her knees in tears. Carini emotional response followed two strong punches from Khelif, an Algerian boxer at the center of controversy for being a ‘Biologically male‘ competitor in the Olympics. The sudden end to the fight, with Carini visibly upset, sparked widespread debate and discussion within the sports community and beyond.

2023 World Boxing Championships Controversy

In the 2023 World Boxing Championships held in New Delhi, Imane Khelif became the center of a gender controversy. She was barred from competing by IBA President Umar Kremlev, who stated, Based on DNA tests, we identified several athletes posing as women who actually have XY chromosomes. These athletes were excluded from competition.

The Algerian Olympic Committee, however, claimed Khelif was disqualified for, medical reasons. Meanwhile, Algerian media reported that Khelif exclusion was due to high testosterone levels, as per Reuters.
